The Moser team used optical genetics technology (Optogenetics) to replace electrodes with light. Photogenetic technology is often used in animal research. It can stimulate genes to produce photosensitive proteins into neurons and stimulate neurons through light.

The research team took gerbil as the experimental object to transform the rat gene into a mouse, shorten the recovery time needed for the two activation of retina protein, then injected the bacteria into the gerbils cochlea, and then put the retina protein gene into the hearing neuron, and then use the optical fiber to enter the cochlea through the round window in the ear. Results in the gerbils, the auditory part of the brainstem was similar to that of the stimulus.

At present, the research team uses only one light wave, and the next step will develop a device that can produce multiple light waves. The device may be designed to use Micro LED array or waveguide technology to guide the light produced by optical fiber. Because optical fiber consumes a lot of electricity, it is expected that the device will be very cumbersome. Daniel Lee, an otologist at Harvard Medical School, points out that LEDs are a good choice, but the light is relatively blurred, so there is a need for technological breakthroughs.


LED enterprises in Taiwan enter the European and American automotive lighting market.

It is reported that, in order to avoid the price competition with Chinese mainland LED suppliers, the LED automotive lighting products of the companies such as Eden optoelectronic, Lian Jia optoelectronic and 100 million optoelectronics have quietly entered the supply chain of European and American auto manufacturers.

Lian Jia optoelectronics 75% revenue from the North American market, has now occupied the North American LED automotive lighting module market share of nearly 10%. According to the industry, the Flex-N-Gate headquarters in the United States, the Hella KGaA Hueck based in Germany and the Magna International headquarters in Canada are the three largest customers of the company. To increase the supply of the North American market, Lianjia Optoelectronics will combine its existing marketing base with the Michigan warehouse in the second half of 2018 to build a new plant. The plant will have an automated production line and a design center and will be operational by the end of 2019.

The LED auto lighting module, which is produced in the new plant in central Taiwan, is provided to American and European auto makers and is expected to rise from about 5% in 2017 to more than 10% in 2018. At present, billion optoelectronics is also expanding the production capacity of the LED automotive lighting module, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2018.


Cree appointed the new chief financial officer
