High electricity prices are forcing people to start thinking about new energy sources such as solar power
According to research by relevant institutions, rising electricity bills, unstable power grids, environmental pollution problems and falling solar costs have greatly increased people's interest in solar energy.
In the United States, for example, rising electricity bills and rising power outages are prompting more Americans to consider solar power as a solution to their home power problems.
People will also face difficulty budgeting more for solar products due to inflation, supply chain issues and rising interest rates. Research shows that people are now paying much more for essentials than they did a year ago, with 61 per cent saying electricity is second only to food (85 per cent).
According to the relevant data, people's average living expenses increased by 5% compared with 2021. But in some parts of the country, such as New Hampshire, the increase was much higher, soaring by about 50%.
Paying high electricity bills is a serious problem for many people, but an unstable grid is another. In 2020, the United States experienced an average of one eight-hour outage, the agency said, the highest level since record-keeping began in 2013. As of mid-July 2022, 44% of people had already experienced at least one power outage this year. Of these, 64.8 percent had at least two or more power outages in 2021.
About three-quarters of those surveyed said they believed solar would reduce their electricity bills, and nearly 30 percent of homeowners said they would consider installing solar if their bills continued to rise. As electricity prices rise and the cost of solar energy falls, solar energy is becoming more attractive to people. An additional policy is the recently passed inflation bill, which increases the investment tax credit to 30 percent over the next decade.
In addition to cost savings, 17 percent cited the environment as a reason for going solar. About 10 percent of respondents also chose solar power because their home might appreciate in value.
