Germany has introduced tax breaks for photovoltaic systems
The German government continues to implement measures to support small photovoltaic installations in response to the energy crisis. The tax break is intended to support solar systems up to 30kW.
From the beginning of 2023, all photovoltaic systems in Germany that operate on single-family or commercial property and produce 30kW or less will not have to pay any income tax on the amount of electricity produced. The German government approved the measures in the 2022 Annual Tax Law. The tax exemption also applies to 15kW PV systems located on multi-family and multi-use properties. Local distributors can increase their investment in solar energy
In addition, the purchase, import and installation of photovoltaic systems and energy storage systems will not be subject to any value-added tax (VAT), provided that these systems are used in homes and apartments or commercial activities, or in public or other buildings used for public purposes.
The VAT cut means that operators no longer need to use the so-called "Small Business Operators' Code" to claim reimbursement, thus shortening the government-wide approval process for work. In approving the rule, the federal government also took advantage of the leeway provided by the new EU VAT law.
In addition, the federal cabinet has decided that income tax assistance associations will in future be able to provide income tax advice to their members operating photovoltaic systems with output of 30kW or less in accordance with income tax exemptions, which were previously prohibited by fiscal decree.
