How to Choose the Right Mobile Surveillance Trailer for Your Camera System

A mobile surveillance trailer is not simply a trailer with cameras installed on top. The cameras, power system, mast, communication equipment, mounting structure, and software platform must work together.

One of the most common questions customers ask BIGLUX is: Can the trailer work with our cameras?

In most cases, yes. BIGLUX surveillance trailers support cameras from mainstream brands, but the configuration should be designed around the actual equipment and application.

1. Start with the Camera Type

Different cameras have different installation and power requirements.

Common options include PTZ cameras for wide-area monitoring, fixed cameras for entrances and boundaries, thermal cameras for low-visibility environments, AI cameras for human and vehicle detection, and loudspeakers for remote warnings.

A construction site may need several fixed cameras and one PTZ camera, while an industrial site may require thermal imaging and long-range zoom.

BIGLUX can adjust the camera brackets, mast payload, cable routing, power output, and equipment cabinet according to the selected devices.

Support for Multiple Camera Types

2. Check Power Compatibility

Camera compatibility is not only about mounting. The trailer must provide enough power for the complete system, including cameras, routers, NVRs, network switches, loudspeakers, lights, and sensors.

A system with two fixed cameras requires much less power than one with several PTZ cameras, an NVR, floodlights, and a loudspeaker.

BIGLUX does not use one power configuration for every project. We calculate the solar and battery system according to the total equipment load, operating time, local sunlight, and cloudy-day backup requirement.

This helps avoid insufficient capacity and unnecessary oversizing.

Check Power Compatibility

3. Confirm the Interfaces

Mainstream cameras may use PoE, 12V DC, 24V DC, or AC power. Before production, customers should confirm:

Camera brand and model

Maximum power consumption

Power input and PoE standard

Mounting dimensions and weight

Network and connector requirements

BIGLUX can reserve suitable power outlets, network ports, cable entries, mounting positions, and equipment space.

On suitable models, Ethernet cables can also be routed through the mast for better protection and a cleaner installation.

Flexible Customization

4. Hardware and Software Are Different

A trailer may physically support and power a camera, but advanced functions usually depend on the camera or software platform.

These functions may include:

  • AI human or vehicle detection
  • Alarm notifications
  • Automatic tracking
  • License plate recognition
  • VMS integration
  • Drone dispatch after an alarm

BIGLUX can provide the trailer structure, solar power system, mast, camera brackets, equipment cabinet, and installation interfaces. We can also supply compatible Hikvision or Uniview cameras.

However, software logic and third-party platform integration should be confirmed with the camera, VMS, or software provider.

Defining these responsibilities at the beginning of the project helps avoid delays during installation and commissioning.

5. Select the Right Mast and Brackets

The mast must support the combined weight of the cameras, brackets, antennas, cables, and other accessories.

The design should consider monitoring height, equipment weight, wind exposure, cable routing, and the required lifting method.

BIGLUX offers different mast heights and manual or electric lifting options depending on the model.

For special projects, we can modify the camera bracket, mounting plate, equipment box, mast interfaces, and internal layout to suit the selected equipment.

6. Flexible Customization

Flexible customization is one of BIGLUX's main advantages.

Depending on the application, we can adjust:

  • Camera type and quantity
  • Solar panel and battery capacity
  • Mast height and lifting method
  • AC charging or backup generator
  • Communication equipment
  • Cabinet and antenna layout
  • Floodlights and loudspeakers
  • Customer branding
  • Structural and transport requirements

Our goal is not to add as many components as possible. It is to build a practical system around the customer's monitoring needs, equipment load, operating environment, and budget.

Information Needed for a Quotation

To recommend a suitable configuration, please provide the camera brand, model, quantity, equipment power consumption, required mast height, communication method, deployment location, cloudy-day backup requirement, software platform, and any special structural requirements.

The more complete the information is, the more accurately we can design the power system, mounting structure, and internal layout.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I install my own cameras?

Yes. BIGLUX surveillance trailers support cameras from mainstream brands. Please provide the camera model, weight, power input, and mounting dimensions before production.

Can BIGLUX supply the cameras?

Yes. BIGLUX can supply suitable Hikvision or Uniview cameras. We can also install customer-specified camera models when they are technically compatible with the trailer.

Can different types of cameras be installed together?

Yes. PTZ, fixed, thermal, and AI cameras can be combined, provided that the mast payload, camera brackets, power system, and network equipment are properly matched.

Can the trailer connect to our existing VMS?

Usually yes, but compatibility depends on the selected camera and software platform. Integration should be confirmed with the camera or VMS provider before production.

Can BIGLUX customize the trailer for a special camera system?

Yes. Flexible customization is one of our key strengths. We can adjust the camera brackets, mast, cable routing, equipment cabinet, power system, and internal layout according to the project requirements.
