A few days ago, the German company Badenova inaugurated the first photovoltaic roof of the bicycle lane in Germany.
It is reported that the project is located in Freiburg, southern Germany, with a scale of 287 kilowatts, including 900 translucent glass solar modules, provided by German photovoltaic manufacturer Solarwatt.
Components in this series are generally technically approved by the German Institute for Building Technology (DIBt). Considered a regulated construction product exempt from further authorization for use in the private and public sectors. Solar modules are also available for overhead and façade installations without the need for separate inspections or additional safety measures.
It is understood that the solar installation is 300 meters long and is close to the Freiburg football stadium, which has been equipped with a photovoltaic system using heterojunction modules supplied by Meyer Burger.
Badenova's subsidiary Badenova Wärme Plus, in cooperation with the city of Freiburg and the Fraunhofer Institute, is building a cycle path using the ISE solar system. Clickcon, based in Freiburg, supplied the assembly structure.
The facility generates approximately 280 MWh/year of energy and will mainly be used in the laboratories and buildings of the Fraunhofer ISE Institute. The latter, as a tenant and operator of the facility, will also oversee it. "We need to rethink photovoltaics in order to integrate other projects of this type into the urban landscape. This pilot project shows how urban spaces can be used twice," says Badenova board member Heinz-Werner Hölscher.
