Tesla Shows Interesting Solar Trailer in Germany

Jul 22, 2022 Leave a message

Tesla does not currently offer any form of solar charging for its electric vehicles, although this will be a feature on some electric vehicles in the near future.

The manufacturer does make solar panels,  but before putting them in an electric car, it put some on a small trailer and took them to IdeenExpo in Hanover, Germany, without explaining why they were there.

It was Tesla's official stand at the exhibition, but there was no any explanation why the manufacturer brought the mobile solar trailer or what it planned to be used for. It's not hard to imagine it being towed behind an Tesla car (which might generate energy even if it doesn't extend), and once at its destination, it could extend its solar panel to generate electricity, either to charge the electric car or just for a small group of people living (or camping) off the grid.

Elon Musk, Tesla's chief executive, talked about building something similar at his 2019 Cybertruck launch, when he announced that the truck could add range-extending solar panels to its ton lid, as well as folding panels that would add 40 miles of range a day.

The project hasn't been mentioned since, but Tesla is apparently considering adding some kind of solar charging module to its electric cars.
