A charging cycle means that all the charge of a battery goes from full to empty, and then from empty to full, which is not the same as a single charge. A lithium-ion battery, for example, uses only half its capacity on the first day, and then recharges it. If it's still the same the next day, use half of the charge, and two total charges count as one charge cycle, not two. As a result, it may normally take several charges to complete a cycle. With each charge cycle, the capacity of the battery decreases a little.


Life span and influencing factors


The normal use of lithium iron phosphate battery should carry out partial discharge, rather than complete discharge, and try to avoid frequent complete discharge. Once the battery is off the production line, the clock starts ticking. Whether used or not, lithium-ion batteries last only a few years. The decrease in battery capacity is due to an increase in internal resistance caused by oxidation (which is the main cause of the decrease in battery capacity). Eventually, the cell's resistance reaches a point where, although the cell is fully charged, it cannot release the stored charge.

D. 0.5C full discharge: charge to 100% charged state, then discharge to 10.8V cut-off voltage, then full, charge and discharge with 0.5C current, cycle 300 times.
