India is expected to add 13.6 GW of solar and about 2.6 GW of wind in 2022, JMK Research said this week in its third-quarter renewable energy report. Of the 13.6 GW of installed solar capacity, about 12 GW will come from utility-scale solar and 1.6 GW from rooftop solar.
According to JMK Research, India deployed 9.3 GW of utility-scale solar capacity from January to September 2022, about 1.7 times more than a year earlier. 1.3 GW of rooftop solar and 0.6 GW of distributed/off-grid solar were also installed. Wind power capacity installed was 1.89 GW, up 46% year-over-year.
As of the end of September, India had about 118 GW of renewable energy capacity, including about 60.8 GW of solar and 41.7 GW of wind, according to the report. About 45 GW of solar, wind and hybrid projects are currently in the pipeline and could be completed in the next four to five years, the company said.
JMK Research also said 75 tenders were issued in the third quarter, including 14.2 GW of renewable energy capacity, a 25.7 percent increase from the previous quarter.
