With the development of smart phones, many people may be familiar with the camera, but may not understand the specific camera used in security monitoring. Today, I will introduce some basic parameters of security cameras to you, in hopes of providing helpful information.
From its appearance, security cameras are mainly divided into two types: cylinder and ball. The cylinder type is more common and can be wall-mounted or ceiling-mounted. It has two power supply methods: DC power supply and POE power supply. With POE power supply, you only need to connect the PoE switch or PoE network hard disk video recorder for power, making it a simpler and more convenient . If using DC power supply, it requires connecting multiple accessories, which may result in a higher total cost than POE. Therefore, we generally install a built-in POE box on the top of the telescopic mast with a camera bracket for installation.
In comparison to mobile phone cameras, the focal length of security cameras is much longer. The focal length of the camera lens has a variety of options, including 2.8mm, 4mm, 6mm, 8mm, 12mm, and above, to meet the shooting needs of various indoor and outdoor environments. Generally, the larger the focal length, the smaller the field of view angle, and the farther the monitoring distance. For example, a 2.8mm focal length is suitable for elevators, stairs, and other relatively narrow environments, while a 4mm focal length is suitable for meeting rooms, shops, and slightly larger scenes. For more open places such as parking lots, pastures, courtyards, and streets, a lens of more than 6mm can be chosen.
Clarity is key for any camera. As we all know, the higher the resolution and pixel of the camera's sensor, the clearer the image will be. However, many people may confuse the concept of resolution and pixel. Simply put, pixel is the unit of measurement for resolution, and resolution is an important concept related to the image. It measures the image's detail performance in technical parameters. For example, a resolution of 1024*768 means there are 1024 pixels in parallel and 768 pixels in line. Pixels and resolution are proportional. If the pixel size is determined, the higher the resolution, the smaller the image size, and the better the display effect. Conversely, the larger the size, the worse the effect.
While a camera with higher resolution and pixels will produce better results, it will also take up more bandwidth and memory space. This means that the same size hard disk can record less time. Therefore, when choosing the resolution of the camera, we should also consider storage in addition to clarity. There are two encoding standards supported by IPC and NVR: H.264 and H.265. The latter is a new generation of encoding standards that can compress video size to half of the former without losing image quality. With the same bandwidth, H.265 can transmit more high-definition video.
In addition to these parameters, there are many other functions and features of the camera, such as infrared night vision, auto zoom, strong light suppression, backlight compensation, protection level,motion detection, and two-way communication. Each function has its own specific scenario, which will be further introduced later.
