Qatar's Minister of Energy Affairs and Qatar Petroleum President Saad Sherida Al-Kabi said on November 29 2022 that there is no limit to the amount of liquefied natural gas (LNG) Qatar is willing to send to Germany.
Alkabi, who made the statement in an interview with the media, also revealed that Qatar was negotiating with German utility Uniper and largest power producer RWE on increasing supply.
Alkabi's interview came as Qatar Energy signed two agreements with ConocoPhillips to export up to 2 million tonnes of LNG a year to Germany for at least 15 years from 2026.
The gas will come from ConocoPhillips' joint venture in Qatar and be piped to the Brunsbuettel floating import terminal, which is under construction.
The LNG provided by Qatar in the above-mentioned agreement is equivalent to about 6% of Germany's total natural gas imports from Russia last year. Before the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, more than half of Germany's natural gas needs to be imported from Russia. Germany has not received gas from Russia since the end of August as relations between Russia and Europe have deteriorated sharply.
